The Shores Café was a God-dream planted in the heart of the founders and directors of Shores of Grace shortly after they made their move to Brazil. Over the next 9 years God brought many people to help, to dream, to build, to develop, and to open.
In many cultures all over the world, coffee is a vehicle that brings people together. It is not simply a beverage, but it is an act of being together. You see, a coffee shop is one of the few places where people are comfortable going and staying alone. Many won’t go out to eat in a restaurant, go to the movies, attend a formal church service or many public events alone – but they will come to a coffee shop. It is in this space that conversations leading to cultural change can happen. One of the cultural changes that is the cry of the heart of the Shores of Grace Ministries is to see prostitution end in Brazil and around the world.
Prostitution is a systemic issue. It is not a ‘problem’ that exists in a vacuum, limited only to those who engage. Prostitution effects systems and is affected by systems. To see an end to a systemic issue the size of prostitution, will take a God-sized answer.
It is in this space that conversations leading to cultural change can happen. One of the cultural changes that is the cry of the heart of the Shores of Grace Ministries is to see prostitution end in Brazil and around the world.
We believe that Shores of Grace is one of those answers and that the Shores Café will become one of the pivotal access points to our ministry. Serving not just coffee, but the love of Jesus – their very human need to be known and loved will be answered by the hope and the song in our hearts that says you are known and loved. As one comes, more will follow and conversations will flow. To change a culture, we must first change the conversation. Through conversation, we offer the hope of eternity with tangible answers for today that will lead to an end to prostitution in Brazil and the world.
